The Dick Trickle 99 has become the most sought after race trophy to win in the Midwest.  Drivers from all over the Midwest and the United States have converged on the LaCrosse Speedway to claim the biggest race with Dick Trickle’s stamp of approval on.  Next to being crowned the overall Oktoberfest champion, this is the one Oktoberfest crown you want to put on your resume.  No driver has ever scored a clean sweep of all three segments, and Dalton Zehr was well on his way to accomplishing that after winning the first two segments.  Those hopes ended after taking a crazy ride on the turns three and four wall halfway through the final segment.  Casey Johnson powered past Jacob Goede with seven laps remaining to capture the win in the final segment and add a Dick Trickle 99 title to his Oktoberfest championship from 2021.

Segment one of the Super Late Model Dick Trickle 99 saw the lead become a hot potato.  Andrew Morrissey (Greenville, WI) led early before suffering a mechanical failure, which turned the lead over to Ty Fredrickson (Webster, MN).  Dalton Zehr (Verona, WI) pressured Fredrickson before powering around the 2024 champion to take the lead just past halfway and drive off with the victory.  2009 champion Chris Weinkauf (Merrill, WI) pulled out to a huge lead over the first half of the middle segment.  Zehr was passing cars left and right as if they were standing still and shot past Weinkauf on lap 18 to drive away with the segment win and a possible first-ever sweep of the event in sight.  The hopes of that clean sweep were dashed by a major pileup coming out of turn two that collected Zehr.  After driving back to the pits, fixing his car and returning to competition, Zehr’s right front suspension broke after the restart and sent him for a wild ride on the turns three and four wall.  Now it was anybody’s ‘ball game’ to claim the overall as Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) drove around Ryan Farrell (Big Bend, WI) on the restart before that end to Zehr’s night occurred.  Casey Johnson (Edgerton, WI) was the man on the move as he powered underneath Goede with seven laps remaining to lock up the final segment and join a prestigious list of Dick Trickle 99 winners.

Feature number three for the LaCrosse Late Models saw a great side-by-side battle between Ryan Kamish, Sr. (Farmington, MN) and Mike Litchfield (Pardeeville, WI).  That lasted until Litchfeld powered around Kamish, Sr. to claim the number one position at the end of lap three.  Meanwhile a little further back in the field, new points leader Skylar Holzhausen (Bangor, WI) broke into the top five on lap eight as he shot past Tom Luethe (West Salem, WI).  About six car lengths separated Litchfeld and Kamish, Sr. as Holzhausen continued his forward progress and took over fourth from Adam Degenhardt (Coon Valley, WI) on lap 12.   Two laps later Ryan Varner (Mayer, MN) would surrender third to Holzhausen, but time was running out to make any challenges with the leaders.  Holzhausen would catch a break when Michael Ostdiek (Prior Lake, MN), rookie champion Carter Horstman (Bangor, WI) and Colin Stocker (Northfield, MN) tangled with each other and the turn one wall with only two laps to run.  Holzhausen got a chance to challenge Litchfeld for the win when Kamish, Sr. may have brushed the wall.  Litchfeld got a better run in turns three and four to claim his second Oktoberfest feature triumph and his third checkered flag of the year.  After the race Litchfeld said "I just wanted a nice and easy coast after last night’s battle, but I suddenly had to work my butt off to fight off Skylar.”

Nick Clements (West Salem, WI) knows about charging to the lead from the front row of a feature, and he did it again in getting by Jeremy Wolff (Chaska, MN) to lead the fourth and final LaCrosse Late Model feature of 2026.  Even though the championship was slipping through his fingers, Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) was determined to win one last feature as he powered around Adam Degenhardt (Coon Valley, WI) to take over third on lap five.  Two laps later Goede made quick work of Wolff to settle into second and set his sights on Clements.  After receiving the crossed flags, Goede continued to put in some hard work to whittle away at the deficit he had to make up on Clements.  The heat was on Clements as Goede dove low  to take over the top spot with three laps remaining and score his fourth feature win of the year to go along with the 2026 Chase championship.  After the race Goede said "We are glad we could finish the year with a win and the Chase championship."  Skylar Holzhausen locks up his third track championship and his second Festmaster crown.

The 25 lap Area Sportsmen feature saw Mike Krueger, Jr. (Sparta, WI) surged to the front at the start of the race, but he would soon have to contend with a hornet's nest of drivers that included Dustin Mann (Vermillion, MN), Chris Weber (Cashton, WI) and Dillon Sellner (Randolph, WI).  The racing was very tight between those four competitors before Mann powered underneath Krueger, Jr. to move into first place on lap six.  As we were closing in on the halfway mark of the race, Sellner was doing everything he could to close up the gap Mann had on him.  Also joining the action after the crossed flags were displayed were Scotty Gardner, Jr. (Dyer, IN) and Dave Trute (New Lisbon, WI) in third and fourth.  After a spin by Hunter Milbrath (Lake Mills, WI) on the front straight with six laps left, Sellner powered around Mann to claim first on the restart.  Shortly after that a major pileup in turn one collected six different drivers and temporarily halted the action.  When the red was lifted, Sellner could not fire up his car due to a faulty clutch and Mann found himself back in first on the restart.  Trute lined up alongside of Mann and quickly shot past him entering turn one to drive away with another big time feature win.  Thanks to a fall through the pack  late in the race by Nick Burley gave Trute the championship for the new Sportsmen Showdown Series by a mere three points.

The competition reaches even greater intensity levels on Saturday, October 10 as the 57th Oktoberfest Race Weekend continues its traditional “Championship Saturday” with the biggest series championships on the line.  One last race for both the Big 8 Late Model Series and the Mid-Am Racing Series could result in some historic championship accomplishments.  Even though championships are not waiting at the end of their features, the Midwest Truck Series and the Midwest Dash Series will be in action to possibly tighten up their title fights with only one race left to run.  The tightest championship fight ever in ASA Midwest Tour history could get even tighter thanks to their preliminary events leading up to their 200 lap grand finale on Sunday.  Gates open at 2:10, the most sought after 'Faster Than a Speeding Bullet' awards go up for grabs beginning at 2:25 and the high octane competition to be an Oktoberfest champion revs to life at 5.
