LETTOW CLASSIC TO FREDRICKSON

Oregon, WI – Ty Fredrickson continued his rise up in the super late model racing world by winning the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA Midwest Tour presented by Five Star Race Car Bodies Bytech Cheeseland Howie Lettow Classic 100 at Madison International Speedway.
It was his third Midwest Tour win, and first of 2026 for the 17-year-old second-generation driver.
“Yeah, it’s been a long time coming. My first ever trip here in May 2024. I was on the pole and didn’t really race well,” son of three-time Midwest Tour champion Dan Fredrickson said after the race. “We’ve been really good here since, and we’ve been close to a win, but tonight we finally knocked one out.”
Fredrickson took the lead from Riley Stenjem on lap 26. The two battled side-by-side for two laps until Fredrickson got ahead of Stenjem to pull away.
As he was leading and finding his groove on the high side of Wisconsin’s Fastest Half Mile Oval, Justin Mondeik was working his way through the field and moved up to the second spot, passing Stenjem on lap 59.
Mondeik would quickly chase down Fredrickson and catch his bumper on lap 65.
A few laps later, as Fredrickson was comfortable running the top groove, Mondeik would get on the inside of Fredrickson to challenge for the lead. But lap after lap, Fredrickson would get a run off the corners and hold on to the lead.
Mondeik would begin to fade as the laps wound down, as Fredrickson would drive to the checkered flag by 3.403 seconds over Mondeik.
“I just love running the top, run at the dells, run at Elko. Anywhere that they spray some sticky stuff down on the top, I’ll be there,” Fredrickson said. “It was better for me on tires. So I knew if I managed when I was running up there, it would have been hard to get by me. I could drive in decent, but I could drive off really good.”
Mondeik tried as best he could, but Fredrickson wore out his tires.
“We could damn near roll up side by side with them on an entry to the center, but then on the outside, you just had really had a lot of grip with the sticky stuff on the outside, and that’s kind of all it took. I felt like if we could have got them, you know, I had about three to four laps,” Mondeik explained. “I felt like I could get him, and I felt like if we could have gotten clean air, I think we would have driven away because we chased him down from a ways back. But once we race hard there on the bottom for a little bit, just used up too much and then started to get free there on the long run. But overall, like I said, great night for us.”
Joe Shear Classic winner finished third, with Penn Sauter coming home 4th after starting 11th. Gabe Sommers rounded out the top five.
Current ASAMT point leader Casey Johnson finished sixth.
Nick Egan won the qualifier heat. Fredrickson won the odd heat, while Levon Van Der Geest won the even heat.
Sauter set a fast time of 17.604 seconds.
