WISCONSIN DELLS, WI — Gabe Sommers of Plover WI outmaneuvered a powerhouse field of Super Late Models on Saturday night, carving his way through the pack to capture the spectacular Dairyland 100 at Dells Raceway Park.
The event marked a thrilling third round for the Alive for 5 Series Presented by Wegner Automotive, drawing a field of elite entries to the paved Wisconsin oval for a high-stakes, 100-lap showdown sponsored by The Market at Slowey Farms.
When the green flag dropped on the main event, the stage was set for a grueling test of patience and tire management. The 100-lap feature moved at a blistering, ultra-clean fast pace.
Jesse Bernhagen took early command of the field. Launching from his outside front-row starting spot, Bernhagen drove a masterful first half of the race, leading all the way to the midway mark to collect a $500 leader bonus courtesy of The Market at Slowey Farms.
However, the tide turned on lap 51. Sommers, who bided his time early after starting eighth (Row 4), patiently worked his way through the top-tier field and launched a decisive charge to snatch the lead. Once out front, Sommers didn't look back, quickly building a massive advantage over the field.
The race's first and only caution flag flew on lap 87, erasing Sommers' gap and bringing a hungry group of contenders directly to his back bumper. But the late-race restart was all for naught for the challengers. Sommers slipped away over the final 13 laps to comfortably claim the night’s main event.
Multi-time champion Casey Johnson mounted a spectacular charge of his own from ninth to finish a close second, while young standout Penn Sauter rounded out the podium in third after starting seventh. Fast-qualifier Luke Fenhaus and Tristan Swanson completed the top five.
