Bobby Wilberg and Brent Edmunds each won a 30 lap Late Model feature while Dylan Klinger (Roto Rooter 6Shooters) and Gracie Flanagan (HSRA) swept both features in their respective classes. Flanagan also put her name in the record book as the winningest female driver at Madison. Pete Ostrowski and Jeff Allard each picked up a checkered flag in the visiting Vintage Modifieds.
Tonight’s racing was all part of the inaugural “Gas Fest” where fans enjoyed chili, hot dogs, and pickled eggs for low prices.
Wilberg and Edmunds Take Home Wins in Late Models
Both Wilberg and Edmunds became the first repeat winners in the division in 2026 by each taking top honors in the two 30 lap features.
Bobby Wilberg became the first repeat winner in the Late Model division this season as he held off Jake Gille for the checkered flag in the first 30 lap feature. He now has 78 wins coming in multiple divisions for his career at Madison.
Jerry Mueller and Bobby Wilberg paced the field to the green flag with Wilberg wasting no time jumping out to the lead with Stephen Scheel up to second followed by Ryan Goldade. After five laps the top three were pulling away from the field before three cars tangled behind them bringing out the caution.
After a lengthy clean up, Wilberg led the field back to the green flag. But an incident behind the leader brought out the caution flag. For Wilberg the result was the same as he quickly jumped back out front over Pat Richgels, Shaun Scheel, and fast qualifier Jake Gille. Shaun Scheel moved into second on lap 9 with Gille up to third. On lap 13 Brent Edmunds moved into the top four.
With ten laps to go, Scheel and Gille were closing in on Wilberg whose lead was diminishing. With six laps to go the caution flag came out when Blake Nottestad’s car slowed setting up a lengthy clean for fluid on the track.
For the restart Wilberg chose the inside with Scheel electing the outside with both Gille and Edmunds choosing to line up behind Wilberg. Wilberg was able to maintain his lead as the top four remained in single file. With five laps to go Gille pulled to the inside of Scheel for second but still had four car lengths to close on Wilberg.
Gille was able to close the gap and pulled alongside Wilberg on the final lap but time ran out and it would be Wilberg going to victory lane. Shaun Scheel finished third followed by Edmunds and Carter Nilson.
When interviewed in victory lane, Wilberg gave credit to Gille for racing him clean and also took time to thank his crew and all of his loyal sponsors for making everything possible.
In the second feature, Brent Edmunds took the lead on lap 6 and was never challenged on his way to victory lane. He now has seven career Late Model wins at Madison.
Colton Morgan and Stephen Scheel led the Late Models to the green flag. Morgan took the top spot on the second lap while Stephen Scheel and Pat Richgels were battling for second. On lap 4 speedy Brent Edmunds took over second from Richgels with Morgan still showing the way out front. Two laps later something broke in Stephen Scheel’s car sending him into the wall and collecting the car of Wilberg resulting in a red flag.
Once the track was cleaned up, Morgan brought the field back to the green flag. But it was Brent Edmunds who wanted to set the pace as he jumped out front followed by Morgan, Richgels, and Carter Nilson. On lap 9 Nilson moved past Richgels for third. Shaun Scheel joined the top four on lap 11 with Jake Gille into fifth on the next lap.
At the half-way point, Edmunds had nearly a three second lead over Morgan and the rest of the field. On lap 24 Gille passed Shaun Scheel for fourth and with three laps to go passed Nilson for third.
But this race belonged to Edmunds who picked up the win followed by Morgan, Gille, Shaun Scheel, and Nilson.
“We’ve been good the last two years. We just need to find a little more speed,” said Edmunds.
Jake Gille set fast time with a lap of 19.105 (94.216 mph)
Dylan Klinger Doubles Up in 6Shooters
Dylan Klinger won his first feature of the season and didn’t stop there as he picked up the win in the second race as well. With the pair of wins, Klinger, a two-time track champion, becomes the all-time win leader in the 6Shooter division.
Jacob Mathison leaped out to the early lead with Gene Robbins in second. His lead quickly built up to nearly twenty car lengths over Robbins, Dylan Klinger and Christopher Webb. Klinger flew past Robbins for second and started to chase down Mathison who lead was down to twelve lengths. On lap 10 Mathison had caught the tail end of the field as the race stayed green.
With five laps to go Mathison’s advantage was down to five car lengths with a pack of lapped cars ahead of him. With three laps to go, Klinger took the lead on the backstretch and wasted no time threading his way in and out of traffic for the win. Mathison hung on for second followed by Webb, Joshua Zacharias, and Robbins.
“It was a little tricky out there tonight,” said Klinger who told the fans he has a total of $200 invested in his car.
Dan Bishop grabbed the early lead in the second feature followed by Noah Karr, Nick Lorenz, and Joshua Zacharias. Like he has done so many times, Klinger came out of nowhere and moved all the way up to second on lap 6. On lap 12 Klinger took the lead from Bishop with Zacharias a close third.
But Klinger was on a roll tonight as he maneuvered his way through lapped traffic and led the rest of the way to pick up the checkered flag. Zacharias finished second followed by Bishop, Christopher Webb, and Karr.
Klinger now has twelve career wins moving him one ahead of Trevor Chilson who has eleven.
A Record Setting Night for Gracie Flanagan
Flanagan’s two wins in addition to a 6Shooter victory earlier this year now gives her six career feature wins at Madison making her the winningest female driver in track history. Going into the season that honor belonged to former Bandolero driver Caylie Duncanson. Flanagan also set the track record for the HSRA in qualifying.
Flanagan picked up her fourth and fifth career HSRA wins at Madison.
After traveling nearly 175 miles to get to the track, Lili Estenson and Taylor Aasen brought the field to the green flag. Estenson took the early advantage with Kennedy Krueger and Gracie Flanagan up to second and third. On lap 4 Flanagan moved inside Krueger for the second position and began chasing down Estenson. On lap 8 Flanagan found the room she needed to get by Estenson coming out of turn four while Krueger was up to second a lap later.
From there it was all Flanagan who picked up the win with Krueger and Estenson rounding out the top three.
When asked why she liked racing, Flanagan said, “I grew up around racing when I was little.”
Flanagan doubled up for the night by winning the second 15 lap feature.
Taylor Aasen took the early lead in the second main event. But it was two-time champion Kennedy Krueger and Gracie Flanagan jumping out to the front. Flanagan pulled ahead on lap 3 and held off Krueger to pick up her second win of the night and a clean sweep.
For the first time at Madison the HSRA cars took qualifying times with Gracie Flanagan setting a new track record with a lap of 15.995 (56.268 mph)
Pete Ostrowski and Jeff Allard Pick Up Vintage Modifieds Wins
Pete Ostrowski and Jeff Allard each won a 15 lap feature for the Milwaukee Stock Car Club Vintage Modifieds.
Thirteen cars took the green flag with Brad Swendrowski jumping out to the early lead before two machines got hooked together in turn two bringing out the caution flag after one completed lap. Swendrowski led the field back to the green flag followed by Darin Allard and Pete Ostrowski. Ostrowski motored his way into second on lap 4 as the top two caught up to the rear of the field.
On lap 9 Ostrowski moved to the outside of Swendrowski to take the lead and waste no time building up a ten car length advantage. He never looked back as he easily picked up the win.
Ostrowski, a long-time dirt track racer at both Plymouth and Wilmot said, “I hardly ever race on asphalt so these things are interesting. I drove this car back in 1994 and haven’t driven it much since that time.”
Jeff Allard of Oak Creek, WI, won the second feature for the Milwaukee Stock Car Club.
Dale Herring jumped out to the lead with Lee Mueller in pursuit with Jeff Allard up to third. After five laps Herring continued to show the way with Jeff Allard up to second on lap 6. Jeff Allard pulled to the inside of Herring on lap 8 to take the lead shortly before the leaders caught the tail end of the field.
With five laps to go Jeff Allard increased his lead to a dozen car lengths and was never challenged after that as took his 1957 Chevy to victory lane. Darin Allard finished second.
“It took me a couple of years to get the hang of it,” said Allard from victory lane.
The finishing order for both features was unavailable due to technical issues.
The Area’s Biggest and Best Fireworks display is on tap next Friday (June 19th) at Madison with racing action in both the Late Models and Dave’s White Rock MISfitz. It’s a can’t miss night of racing and booms as the skies above Madison International Speedway will light up.
