Norway, MI - Dalton Zehr excelled in his racing career by running weekly at Norway Speedway. His knowledge of the Dickinson County Fairgrounds came to good use as he won the Appalachian Sucker Punch Norway 100.
Zehr joins Jamie Iverson and Nathan Haseleu as multiple winners in the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA Midwest Tour visits to the quarter-mile oval.
“I was really shocked that we turned a three in practice and slipped in qualifying,” Zehr said after the race. “But the whole team bounced back and made a few adjustments to the feature, and I tell you what, after 20 laps it was on cruise control.”
Zehr got by Levon Van Der Geest on lap 28, and wasn’t challenged throughout the remaining laps.
Caution flew on lap 42, for a scary incident involving Brock Heinrich got loose on the frontstretch causing him to spin into turn one making hard contact into the tires, causing the car to flip over on its roof. Heinrich walked away but was done for the night.
As Zehr pulled away, Justin Mondiek and Gabe Sommers put on a good battle for second. At the checkers, it was Mondiek in the runner-up spot and Sommers in third.
Penn Sauter finished fourth with Casey Johnson rounding out the top five.
Cody VanDerLoop wins the odd heat. Johnson won the event heat.
Sauter set a fast time of 14.174 seconds.
The Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA Midwest Tour presented by Five Star Race Car Bodies will be back in action on Saturday, July 11th for the Miller 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
